Who Are We?

If you have arrived at this site then you probably have some idea of what Postcard Radio is… but for those of you who don’t, let me take 2 minutes to explain before you go on.

Many people consider Australia to be a Christian country, and I guess in a sense a lot of the fabric of our society has been greatly influenced by the church, Christian thought and practice. In reality though, relatively few Australians consider themselves passionate followers of Jesus and his ways.

We like it when Jesus tells us to love those who are close to us, but we aren’t as impressed when he tells us to love our enemies in the same way. We like it when Jesus calls for the poor to be fed but don’t like when he asks us to pay for it.

Add to that the fact that much of the church’s influence and teaching in the society is now being called into question. This includes debates about science vs faith, abortion, healthy sexuality and even the church’s response to environmental concerns. Put all this together and you have a church that is struggling to maintain its current position let alone grow and develop.

In short, times have changed, the ground beneath our feet has shifted and many of us are struggling to catch up with what this all means.

  • Is Jesus still a relevant figure
  • Is his value system workable
  • What does it look like to imitate and follow Jesus in SE Qld in our time.

These questions and many more form the center of a serious conversation about, where to from here for those who would call themselves followers of Jesus.

This website seeks to be nothing more than a hub and a catalyst for this discussion. We have tried hard here to distil down to just a few books, podcasts and DVD’s that will invite you to think differently about what faith could look like in a changing world.

They are all easy to read, easy to get, basic discussions about these issues. We understand that none of these resources tells the whole story and indeed each of us will agree and disagree with aspects of them, but that really isn’t the point. The point is that these resources will cause you to question and wrestle and even pray through – Where to from here?

What seems clear to me is that we cant keep doing what we have been doing and expect to get different results. Jesus is not only a historical figure but someone who is present with us now in our part of the world, in our time. We sincerely hope that you will find something here which helps you to see where Jesus might be leading you in the future.

So please, browse around, read a book, listen to a podcast, take it in and then start a conversation with someone, Who knows where it could lead…
